What is advanced oxidation disinfection?

In an overview, advanced oxidation disinfection is a treatment process designed to disinfect, oxidize and remove organic and certain inorganic contaminants from water and wastewater through the generation of hydroxyl radical (OH) and other specific compounds.

What is Genclean liquid advanced oxidation technology and how does it compare to other oxidants?

Genclean technology is a non-toxic, advanced oxidation (AOP) formula of minerals chelated with oxygen and stabilized in an aqueous water solution. It is an excellent option in industries and applications requiring a solution to challenging situations where highly effective sanitization, disinfection, and oxidation is required.

It has 2x the oxidation capability of chlorine (bleach) and almost 1.5x the oxidation capability of ozone, hydrogen peroxide, and similar non chlorine solutions as measured by oxidation reduction potential (ORP) or redox potential on an electrochemical potential chart.

Genclean is a product of a chemistry that is effective in a wide pH range, and it does not require an external catalyst activation which is typically required in conventional advanced oxidation disinfection treatment processes.

This solution provides the benefits of advanced oxidation plus residual protection to prevent recontamination, and it does not need a large capital investment or highly trained technicians.

How does it work?

Genclean works through the creation of molecules called hydroxyl radicals in combination with large amounts of other molecules such as reactive oxygen, and super oxides among others to oxidize, disinfect, and sanitize drinking water & wastewater streams for both water utilities and commercial/industrial client applications.

Hydroxyl radical molecules non-selectively react with organic pollutants in the water source through four or more different modes of attack, simultaneously oxidizing and breaking apart these organic contaminant molecules internally.

Due to the generation and regeneration of these reactive hydroxyl molecules without the addition of external catalyst systems, chemicals or compounds, Genclean is inherently more efficient, safer, and scalable. It is also can support residual disinfection protection.

How is it introduced into a water or wastewater stream and what is ORP and how is it measured?

Genclean products are introduced into a drinking or wastewater stream through the use of a GWT liquid chemical feed pump system with an integrated pH/ORP water treatment controller. The ORP controller measures and monitors ORP in the water source to maintain a specific ORP range for the specific application. A chemical feed pump doses the Genclean chemical into the water source typically by using an inline static mixer or other suitable mixing device to maintain the suitable ORP range continuously for organic, microbial oxidation & disinfection or both.

Oxidation Reduction Potential

ORP stands for oxidation reduction potential or redox potential. Essentially, it is an indication of the purity of the water and its capacity to neutralize contaminants & organisms based on the potential to oxidize these contaminants and organisms. The ORP controller will give an immediate reading of the quality of the water and will provide a record of its readings via integrated memory device. The reaction time of an advanced oxidation process is very quick and encompasses many chemical reactions, therefore, concentration, not contact time is the foundation for system design. Therefore, oxidation reaction tanks are sized accordingly to allow for recirculation and reintroduction of Genclean to optimize treatment.

The readings on the ORP controller can and shall be cross referenced and checked from time to time by using a suitable portable ORP meter or test strip kits to confirm the validity of the readings provided by the ORP controller.
